Most people visiting Vietnam would head to Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, or Da Nang, but we planned a trip to Phú Quốc instead! It’s a small island in Southern Vietnam that I suppose not many have heard of because every time I tell my friends/colleagues “I went to Phú Quốc”, their reply would be “did you just swear?!” 😛

Between misty jungle safaris, sandy beaches, golden sunsets and cable car thrills, the island gave us a whirlwind of moments worth bottling up. Here’s a full breakdown of our short but packed tropical escape — with the real details, tips, and what we’d do again in a heartbeat.

Day 1: Arrival and Grand World Evening

Flight TR324 – Singapore (SIN) to Phú Quốc (PQC)

We boarded Scoot TR324 at 4:35 PM from Changi Terminal 1 and landed in Phú Quốc at 5:20 PM local time. With a one-hour time difference and a 1 hour 45 minute flight, it was a smooth hop across the sea. It was such a short flight that we found ourselves at the island’s airport after a catnap!

Tip: Book an Airport Transfer on Klook to get to your hotel! If you're staying at Vinpearl Resort & Spa like us, let the security guards at the gate know you're checking in or the car won't be let through..

After dropping off our bags, we took a buggy over to Grand World for a relaxing evening. The "Quintessence of Vietnam" show was our introduction to local culture: dramatic stage effects, traditional music, and a beautifully choreographed performance.

Post-show, we snapped a few photos with the majestic bamboo-structure, Grand World Welcome Center.

Ended the day with pineapple fried rice and a warm bowl of Bún Chả. It was our first time trying Bún Chả, a noodle dish consisting of rice vermicelli noodles paired with a sweet-sour dipping sauce and grilled pork – and we loved it! Definitely couldn't miss out on the mango too!

Tip: Don't eat too much pineapples or it could leave your mouth feeling raw and tingly!

Day 2: Safari Morning and Sunset Town Highlights

We kickstarted our day with the hotel breakfast buffet, which had a good variety of options. Our favourite was the pho – it was probably the best pho we’ve had.

After filling our tummies, we headed to Vinpearl Safari at 9:00 AM.

Tip: The hotel provides free shuttle service so do check out the schedule!

As hotel guests, we had complimentary entry into Vinpearl Safari — but we went one step further and booked the VIP tour for the animal feeding experience! This included a personal guide, buggy service, 5 drinks, 5 soft toys, and 5 animal feed packs. Our guide was very friendly and funny. He did an awesome job introducing the animals to us and would make some sounds to get the animal’s attention. He would even take photos and videos for us when we fed the elephants, giraffes and capybaras. The up-close feeding experiences made it feel like more than just another zoo visit.

That's not all - The VIP tour also gave us VIP queue access to the safari bus, which made a huge difference.

Tip: Sit on the left side of the bus for the best views during the drive-through safari. We had close encunters with the giraffes, rhinos and lions - safely behind glass of course!

In the afternoon, we headed to Sun World Hon Thom via cable car. This is the longest sea-crossing cable car in the world, and the views were stunning.

At the other end, we spent some time at Aquatopia Water Park, which was quiet on a weekday. There were other parts to explore too, which we didn't have the time for.

Later, we made our way to Sunset Town, an area designed with colourful Mediterranean-style architecture and cobblestone-like streets. Walking here almost feels like stepping into a European postcard, but with a tropical breeze of Phú Quốc.

At around 5pm, we strolled towards Kiss Bridge to catch the golden hour. It’s a popular photo spot where two ends of a bridge meet. If you’re going with your partner, each of you can go to one side and meet in the middle for a selfie! The photo would be amazing during sunset time too!

The bridge is quite long so if you’re tired from all that walking, you may stop by a small café mid-bridge with great iced coffee and views. That moment — sun going down, breeze on your face, and barely a crowd — was one of our favorites.

Dinner was at Time Luxe, an upscale restaurant that delivered on both food and ambience. We stumbled across this one when we were exploring Sunset Town. Something different from the usual Vietnamese Food!

Afterwards, we queued up early for the spectacular "Kiss of the Sea" show.

The multimedia effects, fountains, music, and light displays were theatrical and immersive, and the fireworks that followed closed the night on a high.

We won't be spoiling the show for you - watch it for yourself! ;)

Tip: An umbrella / poncho / jacket would come in handy if you don't like getting yourself wet! We were soaked.

Day 3: VinWonders, Aquarium Dining, and Night Safari

We started our day exploring VinWonders, the island’s largest theme park. It started drizzling just as we headed in. We quickly donned our ponchos and scurried towards this hugeee turtle we saw in the distance. Everyone else also sought refuge here xD

Probably the biggestttt turtle you'd ever see!

Within that turtle was a beautiful aquarium, which was the highlight for us. It was far larger and more immersive than we expected. After walking through its vast tunnels and watching stingrays glide above us, we had lunch at Deep Sea Cafeteria since the rain had not subsided.

Reviews online were not great but we decided to give it a shot anyways and was pleasantly surprised. The food was better than expected and we polished up almost everything, from the refreshing mocktails, to the creamy soup, to the tender steak and finished everything off with a beautifully-plated dessert.

While we were enjoying our lunch at the quaint little bistro nestled by the serene lakeside, a talented pianist began playing beautiful melodies that filled the air with a sense of tranquility and joy. The soft notes of the piano floated around us, creating an enchanting atmosphere that complemented the delightful flavors of our meal.

We shared smiles and exchanged glances, acknowledging the magic of the experience, as the combination of good food, captivating music, and the enchanting sight of the fish swimming harmoniously created a cherished memory that we would carry with us long after the last note faded away.

At 2:00 PM, we left the restaurant to catch the Mermaid Show. It was our first time watching something like this and seeing how they held their breaths this long left us in awe! Didn't quite get a good view for this though as there was just so many people catching this show.

Tip: Climb the spiral staircase to get to the second floor if you want a better top-down view or if you would not want to squeeze with the crowd on the first floor. Otherwise, get a good seat at the main steps early!

After lunch, we rode a few of the roller coasters and other attractions. The queues were nonexistent and the park was clean and easy to navigate.

Next stop was the Teddy Bear Museum — quirky but fun for a short stop. This is Vietnam's first teddy-bear themed museum with more than 500 teddy bears! We were greeted by this giant white bear statue at the entrance - not something you'd see everyday~~

After we left Teddy Bear Land, we decided to continue our adventure with a romantic ride on the Water Taxi. The Water Taxi, a charming vessel that glided gracefully over the shimmering surface of the water. The soft lapping of the water against the sides of the taxi created a soothing soundtrack, allowing us to relax and enjoy each other's company in this serene setting.

Dinner was at a Bach Giai Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant near the Corona Casino. The food was so good! The Peking Duck was juicy and had that amazing crisp but the star of the show was the Fried Beef Pho; it was so flavourful and the beef slices were not too dry. We also had some mushroom-looking buns that were stuffed with ham and cheese, something I've not tried before either.

We left feeling satisfied, thinking that it was the highlight of the day, but the real highlight came next: Vinpearl Night Safari. Unlike the daytime edition, this one lets you see nocturnal animals in their natural behaviors. A group of us got onto a buggy and each pair was given a torchlight, which we could use to shine at the animals (but not their eyes!) as we rode the buggy through the safari. Yes, you don't have to walk!

There were 2 zookeepers that accompanied us, one of whom was the tour guide that brought us around for the VIP tour the previous day and he actually recognised us! The whole experience and ride on the buggy was a fun one. The giraffe feeding in low light, the silent stalking of cats, and the quiet hum of the night made it feel surreal.

We were the last group and the zoo closed almost immediately after our session ended. That said, the zookeepers were very patient and waited till all guests left safely before they left.

Tip: Pre-book your Grab for departure before entering as drivers take time to get in and the area gets quite empty at night.

We ended the night with a visit to Corona Casino — a surprisingly polished casino with all the typical table games. Not too crowded, and a fun way to unwind before packing.

Day 4: Slow Morning and Departure

On our final morning, we strolled along Bãi Dài Beach. Calm waves, soft sand, and barely another soul in sight — a welcome contrast to the packed itinerary of the previous days. We checked out around noon and headed to the airport for our return flight, VietJet VJ983, which departed at 3:45 PM and landed in Singapore at 6:30 PM.

Final Thoughts

Phú Quốc manages to strike a rare balance: it’s family-friendly, couple-friendly, and still holds enough adventure to keep thrill-seekers entertained. From safaris and world-class cable cars to cultural shows and laid-back beaches, it felt like we got to sample the best of what Vietnam's largest island has to offer — all in just four days.

Would we return? Absolutely. Next time we’d probably stay a little longer, spend a day diving, and explore the southern part of the island. But for a short escape with variety, comfort, and just enough surprise,
